The Lambert Karate Dojo has been operating in the local community since 1981. Founded by Shihan David Lambert (father of our current head instructor) the Dojo has operated in numerous locations over the years, including the privately build Lambert Dojo on Green Valley Road for some 25 years, before moving to its current Goulburn location. The Crookwell Dojo has been operating since 2011 under the leadership of Sensei David Lambert jr. Our centre is the largest IOGKF Dojo in the Oceania area and is well known across the globe.
At the Lambert Karate Dojo we practice the Goju-ryu style of Karate. Goju-Ryu translates as hard and soft style incorporating very explosive and powerful movement with soft, whip like movements. It is known around the world as one of the most effective traditional martial arts for its variety of practices. Goju-ryu originates from Okinawa, Japan and has a less militaristic approach compare to that of mainland Japan martial arts. The objective of Goju-ryu is not to break people down, but build them up to reach their full potential in self defence and life.
Okinawa Goju-ryu Karate today is governed by the International Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) and is the parent body of our centres. IOGKF world wide has over 75,000 members in over 60 different countries. Its founder, Master Morio Higaonna, is recognised in Japan as a living cultural treasure. Today IOGKF is manged by the masters most direct student, Sensei Tetsuji Nakamura. In Australia, IOGKF is represented by the Australian Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation (AOGKF). An executive committee, of which Sensei Lambert is a member, over sees the protection of Karate within Australia.
